About the Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology focuses on innovative discoveries and advances in research and clinical trials in cancer pathology that lead to the development of new care strategies and improved outcomes for patients.
The Department of Pathology was established at Dana-Farber in July of 2016. The department also serves as the Division of Translational and Molecular Oncologic Pathology within the Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Pathology and pathology research play a central role in the joint cancer research and cancer care efforts at Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women's Hospital. The Department consists of highly talented and collaborative academic pathologists who are central to our Institutional efforts in precision medicine, immunotherapy, and basic cancer research.
The Department's centers and cores offer a number of services related to pathology, including immunohistochemistry, advanced imaging technologies, and cancer modeling services. See the Pathology Core Laboratory and the Center for Patient Derived Models for more information.
Research Focus
Under the leadership of Kathleen Burns, MD, PhD, the Department of Pathology aids investigators throughout the organization in all disease areas as a hub for pathology resources. The Department also focuses on supporting precision medicine and immunotherapy — two of the Institute's leading research and patient care initiatives — and on developing preclinical models for cancer studies.
